Level 01B: Chilly Course: JDC

World 4A: Icey Sky world
Difficulty: Moderately Hard


This is an icy sky level that combines both ice and sky elements into one level. The level should introduce slippery elements and should introduce some sky elements. This is where the game starts to 'build up' so to speak, and so should be at a moderately difficult difficulty.

So yeah, this is mine now.

For this level, I'm going to use the idea I had for one of my hacks - that is - to have the snow 'deep' in a way only part of mario is visible. The old level design wasn't too great so I'm going to be revamping most of it and making it a lot better.
For now though, I have two screenshots of the 2 screens I have done.


Ignore the lack of decor in the clouds for now.

That's looking good so far, the palettes imparticular are great. I remember a mention of this deep snow gimmick before, so it's good to see it being put to use in this level.

I've been playing around a bit with the palette/atmosphere.

Changed this setuo a little bit so it's a little more challenging.

I am aware pof the minor cut off by the way.

...I'll probably custer sprite for a bit more atmosphere perhaps. Either that or HDMA anyway.

That's looking great. I liked that idea with the ground priority so it will fit well to the theme.

The palettes and decoration look amazing, it really creates a good cold looking atmosphere, especially the layer 3 mist with it too .

From what I can see, the level design itself looks great, it looks challenging enough to be in world 4 too.

I'm looking forward to seeing more.

I love it! If there was one thing you do write with levels (you do more than just one thing, I assure you) it is atmosphere. I feel cold just looking at this level.

I love the way this is coming along.
